'I don’t think he will stop,' Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka comes up with a theory around Andy Murray’s retirement

Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka has an interesting theory revolving around Andy Murray’s retirement. The British ace is set to retire at the end of the tennis summer due to his lack of performance.

The Brit hasn’t been the same since his hip surgery. Since then, Murray has been on a search for wins and continues to struggle to get into his groove. Adding to the tough losses were the interview questions, which were solely based on his retirement. Tournament after tournament, the Brit was asked the same question about his retirement. Soon, he lost his cool in front of the press and gave them the answer to the question.

I'm likely not going to play past this summer. I get asked about it after every single match that I play, every single tournament that I play. I'm bored of the question, to be honest. Andy Murray said in an interview after his loss to Ugo Humbert in Dubai.

However, in a recent interview with Express Sport, Swiss legend Stan Wawrinka believes otherwise and explained that Murray might have said it out of frustration and was looking to stay a little while longer.

I’m not sure that he’s going to stop this summer. I don’t think so but let’s see how it goes. I don’t think he will stop. I think when he announced stopping it’s a lot because of the emotion after losing a match but I’m not sure he will stop this summer. Stan Wawrinka said via Express Sport

Furthermore, Wawrinka was in full praise of his old rival, praising the Brit for managing to win slams despite the dominance of the Big Three, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.

39-year-old Stan Wawrinka was not posed with the same retirement questions as Murray was. Both the players were able to make their way to the Top 50 after injuries, but Wawrinka was questioned less than the Brit was.

Now, Wawrinka, currently at World No. 87, revealed that he does not plan on retiring, and has a lot to prove to the world. Although he believes that it is natural to ask, he explained that he chooses his future in the sport.

It’s just the way I want to answer it and the way I want to prove that I still want to be there. At the end of the day, I decide what I’m going to do with my tennis career. said Stan Wawrinka via Express Sport

Currently, the Swiss legend is unable to get wins under his belt. Even at a challenger level, the former Grand Slam winner is struggling with the wins. On the other hand, Andy Murray suffered another injury and has yet to return to court.
